Modality 2.0 is the simplest keyboard, which reduces the typing area to just four buttons.

The advantages for one-handed typing, "fat-finger" typing, sloppy typing, and typing with limited movement are obvious.

Though Modality can be fast - probably one of the fastest keyboards available - it is also very comfortable, custom-made for the screen at hand.

Modality is also available on iPhone, Apple Watch, and Samsung Watch. It's just that versatile.

We thank you for trying Modality today, and we look forward to your responses at support@joyfulmachines.com

It's definitely the oddest keyboard concept I've seen, but relatively easy to learn and use. The one drawback is that the dictionary this keyboard uses is very small. Lots of words that could be considered commonplace English aren't available. I had to switch to a different keyboard just to type this review. All in all, I'm going to keep using the keyboard (but until it improves I'll keep a secondary keyboard available as well).

Great feedback; thank you. The default list is about 60,000 words, hand-modified for today's vernacular (e.g. "Uber"). We'd love to know some of what you found missing. It's also worth noting that you can customize your dictionary with the +Word button. Thank you so much for using Modality, and please reach out - support@joyfulmachines.com. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that the keys are all very different colors in order to help differentiate between the letters as well, although I'm colorblind so I believe I was lost on that feature, but thank you for mentioning the shapes! I think I was so focused on trying to figure out the colors that I completely flaked on the fact that they were grouped into the closest shapes. Either way, with my stubby, thick fingers I'm thrilled with everything about this app! It will definitely make typing faster!

Thank you so much for this response! We've had users saying it is very intuitive, though the thought process for getting words on the screen is definitely different. We hope that the fact that the letters are arranged by shape helps overall. Please reach out any time at support@joyfulmachines.com with other ideas. Thanks again!

3 stars because I can respect the "out of the box" mentality but to be honest, there's no reason for an anyone to learn this new keyboard. QWERTY keyboard paired with swipe doesn't need replacing and this new kb has a steep learning curve. I can understand this kb on a watch but not for a phone with a full screen and space for QWERTY. The learning curve is just too much.

Thanks for this feedback. The idea is comfort and limiting the movement. There are some who call it a steep learning curve, but others find it very intuitive and easy to use. I myself type thousands of words using Modality only, and this took 3 years to develop with lots of thought and care. If it isn't for you, that's ok, but it may be for others.

What's new

A keyboard that uses only four buttons
Updated from Modality 1, which also had four buttons
Simpler than Modality 1
Letters are arranged by shape
Corrected a bug that crashed on the word "balance."
