Muting the speaker didn't work but going into settings and reducing the multimedia volume to zero did the trick. It takes a little more effort but accomplishes the desired results.

I read the reviews and was put off by the fact that there is no option to mute the sound. Consequently I don't think that this is for me since this is the type of game that I play while sitting in a waiting room at the doctor's office.
